Leaders with Empathy.
We live in times of spectacular changes. Each year now brings as many breakthroughs and innovations as 25 years in the 20th century. This means that in the category of experiencing the world around us, in 4 years we will turn a century, and in 8 years – two centuries. We had over 100 years to get used to such novelties as electricity or railways. Now we have much less time to absorb many more stimuli and knowledge. It will be chaos and possibly extreme views. There will be no time to adapt. Some will “catch” it, others will not. Some will love it and others won’t. Probably many of our current “beliefs” about economic processes, customer behavior and rules of operating will fall into ruins.
In this context, we business people need to change our way of thinking. We cannot manage companies using the old methods.
Our first, worst enemy can be fear as our shaky minds panic to seek solutions to external uncertainty and the pressure of the results.
Anxiety doesn’t build great, healthy businesses.
It cannot enslave us. We have to choose peace, trust and confidence that things are going in the right direction. It is through our hearts and minds that we decide what kind of world we create and in which we live.
Second, the old thinking about hierarchy and competition will no longer work.
The management of our businesses should be based on cooperation and openness to ideas coming from diverse views. Being the boss today does not mean that I know everything, the times of the generals are over. The complexity of the topics should open us to cooperation, setting new rules beyond formal divisions.
Third, being serious, the lack of distance to oneself and the world is overwhelming for the leader and the people around him.
Life is a beautiful adventure. Quite a short one and it is worth remembering it every day. Gratitude, joy of existence, serenity are a great human skill that is also worth taking care of in the context of professional work. From the perspective of the last day of life, how would we create our business reality?
Finally, to succeed with the above lessons and many others that fate will throw at us, it is necessary to answer the most important question: who are we.
I have personally met few leaders with high self-awareness. Many negative behaviours often come from this deficit. Lack of self-acceptance and self-respect frequently prevents us from being the best version of ourselves.
After years of intensive professional work at executive levels in large corporations in Europe and Asia, I decided to pause. On my newly created portal I will share my experience and inspiration from other wonderful people on how to approach the world today.
How to build inner peace and confidence that all is well. How to awaken cooperation. How to enjoy life with all its complexity and apparent difficulties. How to find the answer to the question: who am I.
I combine my many years of business experience with my own spiritual development (not to be confused with religious). Spirituality is now practiced by more and more people and supported by scientific discoveries in the field of quantum physics or neurology. They allow us to understand our relationship with the outside world and between us. It’s worth knowing.
On my website, I will be particularly focused on the urgent need for a new style of leadership, but I will also encourage the debate on the need to redefine corporate goals along with shifting stakeholders expectations from “more immediately” to “long-term sustainably”.
Because in our journey, we must take care not only of the road, but also of the destination.
I believe that the world should be changed starting with yourself. I did that too.
Now I invite you.
With love,
Joanna
